What a difference a year makes - #7
2009: Until June I had the best kitty-friend of my life. Abbey came to us as a too-big-eared kitten two days after we moved into our house - officially making it home. She came as part of a duo with her best friend, Penny. That was back in 1994. She nuzzled her furry and ample white-bellied wonderfulness into our hearts for fifteen delightful years. Through every one of those fifteen Abbey-ful years, she filled our home with a calm warmth that blossomed with our attachment to her and hers to us.
Abbey and I shared a very close relationship. She was incredibly intuitive and knew exactly when Mama Gina needed her some Abbey. I've written about Abbey and me many times before so it's really no surprise to many people that losing her was one of the most significant losses of my life.
And it happened in 2009, of course.
2010: I still miss Abbey more than I can (or care to) express. There's a humongous hole in my heart - in my life - that remains empty.
That being said, 2010 has brought me a different kitty relationship with our little man Cooper. He has begun to pay special attention to his Mama Gina. Where Abbey and I were friends, Cooper and I are more like mom and son. He is such a little clown - he makes me laugh every day. Oh, and he's absolutely addicted to his cat treats, which we call "candy." Not a night goes by that he doesn't sleep on me. He brings things to us from around the house (socks, stuffed animals, shoes, bathrobe ties...) in what I call his attempt to help provide for our "pride." Yup, he's our little family guy.
2010 has brought more kitty love into my life. Rather than look at it as having less because of the loss of Abbey, I am trying to look at it as having more because now I have Cooper's love in addition to having had Abbey's.
Thank goodness for kitty love.

NaBloPoMo '09 - Hai-cat #4
Day four of National Blog Posting Month '09 (NaBloPoMo) brings me to yet another Hai-cat. Yes, I'm writing a haiku about a photo of our cats every day throughout November. Here's today's attempt at poetry...

It's Been A Long Week!
Voilà! Un chat très confortable.

Cooper has captured how I would like to spend the weekend... I guess he had a long week too!
This begs the question, Have I ever been that comfortable? Well, at least I have something to aspire to!

There Be Upside Down Cats Here...Honest!
Disclaimer: This site is NOT affiliated with Upside Down Dogs!
This site is dedicated to showcasing upside down cats, in addition to the many other aspects of my life.
There really are upside down cats here. Have a look around and you'll find them.

The reason for this post is recent anomalous statistics here at Upside Down CATS. Since last Wednesday, October 15th, my visitor count has been incredible! After considerable research as to why my number of visitors suddenly increased tenfold, my tenacious husband, Scott discovered the reason.
Was it because hundreds of savvy folks have finally recognized me for the insightful, clever and enjoyable writer I am?
No.
Was it because I've recently become a celebrity so everyone suddenly cares about what I have to say?
Uh, No.
Was it because the title of my blog promised provocative content?
Well, kind of.
It seems on that fateful date of October 15th a new site called Upside Down Dogs was born. They provide photos of, well, dogs...upside down.
Apparently many, many, many people made the leap that, if there was an Upside Down Dogs showing dogs of the upside down persuasion, there must be a similar site for their feline counterparts, and that site must be called Upside Down Cats.
For those who may have stumbled upon me in search of photos of upside down cats, I am happy to oblige.

Here's one of our very own Abbey to get you through the next few sentences... You're welcome. After all, I am Upside Down Cats. In fact, when my husband registered the name, it was because of the apparent affinity people (ourselves included) had for the sight of cats, lying upside down. But we never followed through with turning it into a gallery of upside down cat photos.
When I began blogging, we searched through the domains we already owned, and I chose Upside Down Cats for the title of my blog. I didn't choose it haphazardly or without careful consideration, however. Ever true to my personality, I gave it a philosophical bent. Read my post In Search Of My Own Upside Down-ness and you'll learn everything you'll need to know about this site and my take on the title.
So don't be disappointed about the cats...I have those too...

Here's Abbey again napping with our nephew, J.

This critter here is our Cooper getting a belly rub from Daddy Scott.
I like to think of my blog as a celebration of the total concept of Upside Down Cats. I hope I've convinced you to look around. If you love cats, believe me, you've come to the right place!

All Together Now
This is the totally un-posed scene I encountered as I returned to the nice cool house after mowing the lawn and other assorted yardwork on Saturday.
I guess you'd say Saturday afternoon was a lazy time for several of our feline friends.

Eenie, Meenie, Miney and Moe...
Alias: Cooper, Desi, Abbey
...and Decorative Stuffed Cat. As an inanimate object we never felt the need to name her, but here she is being no more inanimate than her named housemates...
Henceforth she shall be known as Moe.

SHHH...the baby's sleeping...

I recently mentioned how there are no babies right now at my daycare who need the nap room...
Apparently I forgot about our own baby boy, Cooper, who not only needs to have his own room (aka ours, but only at his and our other cats' discretion) at naptime, but to sleep on Daddy's pillows!
Question: How hard is the life of a cat at our house?
Answer: Not very.
